EpiNurse Center NAN conducted a 2-day workshop on "Capacity Building: Map Reading and Map Making" to local EpiNurses to equip them with theories and practical tools that can be applied in community work for Disaster Risk Reduction. Workshop explored the knowledge and potential of participants in community mapping and provided concepts on how to read topographic maps. Workshop also provided training on mobile mapping, location sharing, creating bookmarks, compass and navigation, routing and distance measurements. Training was delivered using learning techniques with an emphasis on interactive lectures, group exercises, group brainstorming and group presentation. At the end of the training, participants were able to practice mapping of their community incorporating essential components of map like scale, legend, contours, compass and so on. Training was provided by IT expert Dr. Uttam Paudel, Center for Spatial Information Science, University of Tokyo, assisted by Sushila Paudel, EpiNurse Center NAN, DNGL student, University of Kochi and Sangita Gyawali, Project Assistant, NAN. The culmination of the training programme was the presentation of group work by the participants on how they would use the skills learned on disaster management when they return to their communities.
